The work takes the viewer into a protagonist's journey of solitude through the endless effort of riding a bicycle attached to a parachute from day to night. As the journey deepens, the light dims and exhaustion sets in, pulling the figure into familiar yet unidentifiable universal landscapes, conducting her search for Lake Lonely in silence. The project comprises three parts: a fish's funeral speech, a seesaw boat, and a floating dock on Wesserunsett Lake, Maine. The voiceover presents what the artist calls "boat conversations," produced on a wooden seesaw boat built during the Skowhegan residency in 2018. The video explores the relationship between the floating dock and the wooden boat, tracing an uncertain and searching navigation. Paddling emerges as a compulsive activity, a means of passing time and creating form from near nothing, while its rhythm generates a heightened awareness of the time and labor embedded in the work. By using hand made scaffolding structures with industrial building materials such as SCH 40 steel and cheese borough, I want to bring this perspective of my grandfather's background as an architect while he was punished for a donkey political cartoon in 1950s. The scaffold structure also conveys a metaphor for temporary "home" or "work in progress". There are five videos as five editions of my recreations of this donkey cartoon caused my grandfather in labor camp in 1950s. Each video shows one edition of my grandmother's memory of this destroyed cartoon.
